From lance at osuosl.org Mon Dec 1 13:50:23 2025 From: lance at osuosl.org (Lance Albertson) Date: Mon, 1 Dec 2025 13:50:23 -0800 Subject: [Hosting] Update on Datacenter move Message-ID: All, I wanted to provide an update on our upcoming datacenter move. We experienced some delays while the Oregon State Datacenter (SDC) addressed administrative issues for onboarding, but we finally received badge access this week! Below is a summary of the next steps and a rough timeline: - Fiber trunk installed between LinkOregon and our racks in the SDC: Scheduled for 12/3/2025. - New 40Gbps fiber link added in Corvallis: This link to LinkOregon, dedicated to the pseudo-wire between the two sites, is active and ready but not yet configured. - Install new 100G switches and set up pseudo-wire in SDC: Will be done after the racks and fiber trunk are completed. - Setup initial network switches and OSL servers in SDC: Starting this week. Once networking is established, we will prioritize server migrations in batches to ensure service availability: 1. MySQL, Postgresql, DNS, and other OSL utility systems 2. OpenStack controller nodes (x86/ppc64le/aarch64) 3. OpenStack hypervisor nodes (x86/ppc64le/aarch64) 4. Ceph nodes (x86/ppc64le) 5. Ganeti hypervisor nodes 6. Project Co-Located equipment Most servers are set up for high availability, so downtime should be minimal. However, some OpenStack hypervisor nodes use local storage; VMs hosted on these nodes will likely be offline for the duration of their move (up to 8 hours). We will send a separate email when those moves are scheduled. While we do not anticipate significant moving this month, the goal is to move most of the internal OSL infrastructure over the coming weeks. Pending that progress, we hope to begin project co-location moves in January. We will reach out to individual projects once a schedule is finalized. *Please note that our capacity to work on tickets will be reduced during these moves. We will prioritize urgent tickets, but please be patient as we execute this datacenter migration.* I will send another update before the end of the month. Please let me know if you have any questions. --- Lance Albertson Director Oregon State University | Open Source Lab -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... We started collecting some of the problems in a document here: OSGeo Website Update 2025 Workplan However the activity was not funded as part of the marketing committee budget. In that document there are immediate priorities: - Updating the icon set to include mastadon and so on ... presently it still has google+! - Rolling back some of the changes made to the theme for the project pages. We had an attempt to add "osgeo project", "osgeo community" labels as seen in the project list - however the result has been some duplication at the top of each page. Other communication options: - Marketing (Discourse) tends to focus on content - OSGeo Website (Discourse) public feedback - GitHub - used a lot for public feedback prior to discourse being available (I made a website label) - - Jody Garnett On Dec 5, 2025 at 12:07:42?PM, Vicky Vergara wrote: > Dear Evelyn > > I hope the trip back home from FOSS4G went well. > > I am writing about the volunteer work on the OSGeo Website you offered > during FOSS4G in New Zealand. > > This is to keep you up to the communication channels that we use: > > Please register on: > https://lists.osgeo.org/mailman/listinfo/sac > > I found you already have an osgeo-id > You should be able to access https://trac.osgeo.org/osgeo/ > > Click on active tickets: > You will see a list of tickets and some are from component Website. > > For example this one: > https://trac.osgeo.org/osgeo/ticket/3476 > > Those are tickets that need work on the OSGeo website (Besides what we > talked about during FOSS4G) > > I need to give you permissions to do the website content modifications. > And give you some training. > > Please let me know when we can meet at > https://meet.osgeo.org/sac > for the training where the first training part is how to give permissions > using your OSGeo ID as example. > > My time is UTC-6 > > Regards > Vicky > > > -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed...
