Here is what we have so far:
- GDAL Raster Driver for PNG/JPG Tile Structure + gdal2tiles utility
- GDAL: Driver for GeoRSS
- GDAL: KML read support for the existing driver
- 3D Rendering Pipeline Component (ie JOGL Data Viewer)
- Coverage model and operations for PostGIS
- Materialized Views with Geometric Support

Please add comments (ie feedback for students), many of these things 
have "ownership requested" which ammounts to a very strong vote.
