The Eastern Symposium at Eastern Carolina Univ. put on by NCAUG is next week. You might check with Hope Morgan about it. She might be willing to put up a sign or something to let members know about it. Her info is here. http://www.triangleareagis.com/5415-north-carolina-arcgis-users-group-eastern-symposium/

Athens has a good vibe - not accessible. I'm shooting for Atlanta or Raleigh or somewhere not left coast. Actually I've got a loose confederation of Atlanta people working it....hopefully.

So I made the Georgia URISA Student day. The banner for SE OSGEO - well
- ended up being just a me at a table. The tables were less than optimal
for much of anything. I did hand out some OSGEO 8.5 Live DVD's....to
which most of the students went "DVD's what are those?". I was able to
sign up 3 or 4 students on the list and make a good effort at explaining
why we needed an OSGEO group to students who only know one brand of
software - not that's there's anything wrong with that - but it could
be better.

Right now we're up to 30 members on the list - we seem to be adding
about 2 people per day.

Onward and Forward,
Randy

Randy,
Thanks for taking the time to attend and do outreach ! I wonder if, in
addition to OSGEO Live DVDs, CD/DVDs with standalone Windows versions of
QGIS, GRASS, Postgresql/postgis, etc. and/or the OSGeo4W installer might
be a good idea . ( Much as Windows is not my preferred platform :-)).

 Dear Everyone,

(x-posted to OSGeo & LocationTech discussion lists, please fwd to all
interested parties)

As a fairly new conference, FOSS4G North America has lacked a formal
selection process in terms of how to select which city/venue, who was
organizing, and more. Until now...

A team of concerned people from the community including many past chairs of
North American FOSS4G events have collaborated to draft a proposal for how
FOSS4G North America will be governed.

On behalf of the team, we would like to invite you to review the draft and
participate in the process. The review period will last until April 29th.
After which, we will enact the process for FOSS4G NA 2016.

The governance document is available publicly here
<https://docs.google.com/document/d/1WlgmJgtl0LaV0EO0NtDDSnloTgsIvxu9KwddPDwX1WU/edit# <https://docs.google.com/document/d/1WlgmJgtl0LaV0EO0NtDDSnloTgsIvxu9KwddPDwX1WU/edit> >.
Anyone can comment. All discussion takes place via. a Google group here
<https://groups.google.com/forum/#%21forum/foss4gna_selection>.

A brief summary is as follows:

The city & venue selection process will be conducted by a committee
consisting of:

   - The 3 most recent FOSS4G NA chairs
   - One appointed representative from OSGeo
   - One appointed representative from LocationTech

The committee will select the next conference location factoring their
votes, plus votes from attendees & sponsors from the previous conference.
The same committee will also select the organization to run the logistics
for the conference. The conference chair will be elected at the previous
conference by conference attendees.

If you're interested, please do join the Google group to discuss and
participate. Thanks in advance.

Kind regards,

Andrew
