On behalf of Jeff Essic. This is the largest conference in the Southeast,
and generally pulls about 1000 attendees. All GIS projects are encouraged,
no matter what your using to do them. Is there something you really want to
see covered? Internet of Things? Drones? Something else? Anyone can submit
ideas for what they think is hot.

Please mark your calendars now for the 2017 NC GIS Conference, to be held at
the Raleigh Convention Center, February 22-24!! As in years past, Wednesday
February 22nd will have CURISA workshops, and the 23rd-24th will be the
actual conference. The theme is "30 Rocks GIS!" as this is the Conference's
30th anniversary.

The Program Committee is now soliciting presentation abstracts and
suggestions for presentations at the conference. You may submit a complete
abstract for a presentation that you would like to deliver -- or you may
also make a suggestion for a topic or speaker that you would like to see.

Please submit your title or topic idea, a short description (no more than a
few sentences), and relevant contact information using the form at
<http://go.ncsu.edu/ncgisconf_ideas> http://go.ncsu.edu/ncgisconf_ideas. You
can suggest yourself or someone else as the presenter.

The deadline for submissions is Friday, August 12, 2016 but earlier
submissions are strongly encouraged and in fact will receive greater
consideration as we work through the summer to compile the program.
Multiple submissions are welcome.

Topic areas include, but are not limited to:

- Data: Census, Orthophotography, LiDAR, Best Practices, Sharing and
Collaboration, etc.

- Applications: Transportation, Public Safety, Planning, Environment,
Property Mapping, and others.

- Technology: Development Platforms, Cloud Computing, Mobile Applications,
Spatial Business Intelligence, and more.

- GIS in the Enterprise: Management Best Practices, Technology Trends,
System Integration, Professional Development/Certification, and more.

- Legislation: Topics focused on the increasing role of GIS for public
policy, as well as questions around data privacy, access, and sharing.

The 2017 NC GIS Conference website is still under development, but will be
<http://www.ncgisconference.com/> http://www.ncgisconference.com/.
Meanwhile, you may still go to this site to get a sense of the 2015
conference while it is still there.

** Another note for folks within the higher-education community: We are no
longer conducting a separate solicitation process for academic abstracts.
Instead, please submit your abstracts for full consideration using the same
form linked above.

Thank you very much,

Jeff Essic
