Folks,
there is a chance to try out some INSPIRE life at the next INSPIRE
conference in Kraków, Poland. JRC has reserved a workshop slot and
organizes a mash-up event together with OSGeo. It will be worthwhile
going there and have a look at what will happen. Find an introduction on
the INSPIRE portal[1].
Some activity has also taken place on our INSPIRE Wiki page at:
http://wiki.osgeo.org/wiki/INSPIRE
But I am still pretty much at a loss on how to better address the needs
created by INSPIRE?! Or put the other way round: What do we want from
INSPIRE? Data, obviously. But can we consume it readily? Afaik
OpenLayers and GDAL (just as examples) do not support GML 3.2.1 yet.
deegree does[2]. But I could read and display some GML 3.1.1. with
Quantum GIS which made me check back with the GDAL web site where it
days that OGC is based on GML 2?! How will anybody not working with this
stuff every day be able to find herself about...?
Looking at the OGC portal product list [3] it seems that some items are
not kept up to date. Would it be interesting for projects if OSGeo helps
to maintain that list? MapServer is still listed in version 4.2,
Mapbender in 2.4.3, GeoServer with latest entry from 2007-07-26 ... and
so on.
Best regards,
Arnulf.
