[TCMUG] RE: OSM for Landmarks

For what it's worth, I've encouraged the SharedGeo folks to use OSM as the basemap layer, if possible, in their GeoMoose application designed to help the emergency response and GIS communities maintain info on structures (police, fire, schools, hospitals), precisely because of the reasons debated here. I think crowd-sourcing is a key piece of the "maintenance" puzzle. Even if the public only contributes/validates the LOCATIONS of these structures, we're in a better place than we are now.
