[Ubuntu] Fwd: GDAL problems on 12.04

Hi Frank,

I had a similar problem, but with different symptoms, some weeks ago.
In my case it had to do with proj, probably because it was installed
from the sources and not from the repos; with the upgrade to GDAL 1.9
everything stopped working. Can you check which proj version you have
installed?
