[Ubuntu] python-gdal 1.8.0.2 and 1.9.0-1

Hi!
Why do I have to force python-gdal to be 1.8.0.2 and prevent upgrading
to 1.9.0-1 in order to keep qgis 1.7.3-2 working?
I'm using ubuntu 10.04. Am I doing something wrong or is this the way
it has to be?
