[Ubuntu] File geodatabase API

Is (will?) the ESRI file geodatabase API be included with the gdal 1.9 package? There appears to be a little ambiguity with the license, but it apparently can be redistributed; see http://gis.stackexchange.com/questions/18692/can-esris-file-geodatabase-api-be-redistributed  It would be nice to access file geodatabases with prebuilt binaries.
