[OSGeo-UK] More on the chapter representative role

Dear All,

I thought it might be worth outlining a bit more what the role of the OSGeo
Chapter Representative involves, in case anyone else is interested in
having a go.

Firstly, it's a kind of administrative role- every chapter needs a rep in
order to be officially recognised by OSGeo. Secondly, you don't have to do
it for 6 years like I have- you could just do it for a year or two!
Thirdly, you don't need any great experience or qualifications- you just
need some enthusiasm for promoting the chapter. After that, the sky is your
limit- you can make the role as small or as large as suits your time and
energy.

What do I do currently? I manage the mailing lists, web pages, twitter,
social networking accounts (could do much better here). I give an annual
report to OSGeo to go in the journal. I stand up and talk at the OSGeo:UK
AGM. I communicate with the AGI, who hold our bank account. I look after
the marketing materials and the banner, and coordinate getting them to
various events. I try and guide the chapter, and pick up sponsorship. I
evangelise about OSGeo and the chapter at conferences etc.

So not a lot really!

If anyone is interested and wants to know more, please drop me a line
off-list and we can chat about it.

All the best

Jo
