OSGeo:uk is a new chapter that doesn’t yet have a formal voting structure (we discussed this at our AGM last week and will implement over the next month or so). I suggest that in the meantime those who are subscribed to this list respond to this mail with +1 or 0 or -1 and we can take the summary of that as the view of OSGeo:UK (it would not bind us to subsequently affiliating or whatever will be proposed by OSGeo-EU).
If you strongly disagree with this way of polling the UK chapter feel free to suggest an alternative.
Personally I am very supportive of this idea. I think our loose confederation of SMEs in the European FOSS4G community needs to have a way of presenting to major governmental and pan-governmental bodies. My vote is +1
Cheers

We discussed about the potential and the need to have an European local OSGeo chapter, which is not "above" the local chapters and which does not overtake tasks, that are already well covered by OSGeo.org, but that overtakes different, special European-related tasks and challenges, that aren't already covered by local chapters or by OSGeo.org itself.
