FOSDEM is a free, community-driven conference in Brussels that brings together developers and enthusiasts of free and open-source software. I spoke at the event last year and it's an incredible scale and atmosphere. Next years event will take place on the last weekend of January and there will be a geospatial developer room on Saturday, 31 January 2026. The room is now welcoming talk proposals. If you work with open-source geospatial tools, data, or applications, please consider submitting a session. Topics of interest include GIS software, web mapping, data visualisation, mobile data collection, AI/ML for geospatial, standards and interoperability, OSM, environmental and sustainability applications, smart cities, IoT, and real-world case studies. Key dates: * 1 December 2025 ? Submission deadline * 15 December 2025 ? Notification of acceptance * 31 January 2026 ? Devroom day at FOSDEM Submit your proposal at: https://fosdem.org/submit (choose the Geospatial devroom track). Talks are typically 25 minutes, with some 10-minute lightning slots available. GeoNetwork has a similar call to GeoServer's recent campaign, for funding for v5, to update underlying components such as Java and some of its frameworks (https://www.geocat.net/blog/news-1/geonetwork-5-crowdfunding-12). It's worth discussing if GeoNetwork would be a worthy recipient of a GoFundGeo grant from OSGeo:UK. GeoNetwork is a spatial metadata catalogue, and is used by various UK open-source geospatial projects. It's a core component of the open-source geospatial stack. As with the GeoServer updates, this is difficult work to fund commercially. Customers pay for functionality or bugfixes, but wholesale updates like this cost too much for one paying customer to fund. As a result, if this is something OSGeo:UK might consider funding, I think it would be worth investigating. Many thanks Tom -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... If Andrea applies again this year, I would vote in favour of his being given a grant. QGIS plugins currently need to undertake development in order to be compatible with upcoming QGIS4. Andrea has already completed this work, I believe. He continues to support the plugin extremely well, and I know he will use the funds appropriately. For newer members of the list, I declare as an interest the fact that I used to develop qgis2web. Its continued success therefore means something to me, but I also believe it is a plugin which is useful to all QGIS users, including us in the UK. I'm running two GIS courses specifically designed for social science researchers, in partnership with InStats. These aren't generic GIS courses ? they're built around the questions you actually need to answer and the data you actually work with, with an opportunity to ask me specifically about your work. Advanced R for Spatial Analysis This seminar provides an in-depth exploration of advanced spatial analysis techniques using R, aimed at enhancing the ability to handle and interpret complex spatial data. Participants will gain practical skills in spatial joins, buffering, point-in-polygon operations, and more,?equipping them to conduct sophisticated spatial research effectively. Spatial Statistics in R This comprehensive seminar introduces participants to spatial statistics using R, guiding them through essential techniques for analyzing geographically referenced data. Led by Dr. Nick Bearman, attendees will gain practical experience with tools like GeoDa and learn how to interpret spatial patterns and relationships, enhancing their research methodologies. ?I love having a workbook to go through, it?s how I learn best. Also, perfect balance between presentation and practical work.?
