Compañeros, Javi de Madrid está intentando montar una actividad
coordinada... ¿Alguien se anima a la semana que viene o la otra hacer
un sprint de testeo de quickstarts y traducciones para OSGeo Live?

Subject: Activity proposal for Spanish Chapter ( Re: Bringing
OSGeo-Live Quickstarts up to date )

Hi,

I am pretty sure I am ccy'ing Spanish language translators in this
forward ( In case some one is missed, please do not hesitate to
include or forward him). I am including also Santiago Higuera, Ivan
Sánchez and Micho to let them know. They are not in the translators
list, but I would say they may be interested in the idea.

The point is that this month we are celebrating several 'Geoinquietos'
Meetings in different local areas in Spain. Geoinquietos are OSGeo
local meetings in the unconference way. For example, Next Friday 25th
we are having Geoinquietos Madrid.

In my opinion, the activity Cameron is suggesting, is a funny way to
learn and spread the knowledge of tools we don't have specific
knowledge of, in a quick way. I think this could be an interesting
activity to try to run on community organizational basis.

I would suggest we could try to organize a kind of 'OSGeolive
Quickstart Hackaton Weekend' during the two weekends 26-27/01 and/or
2-3/02. My very first idea is try to explain/organize the activity in
the Geoinquietos Madrid venue next friday. After that, once we have
volunteers and work is organized, every participant would do the
assign activity during the weekend, including testing and translations
or whatever...

Given the current schedule on OSGeo Lived DVD, translations have to
finished by 04/02/2013.

So the proposal is:

1.- Organize the activity during next week (in Madrid we would do it on Friday)
2.- Volunteer On-line work during next one/two weekends

Best Regards,

Javi.

OSGeo-Live translators,

I'm hoping that many of you will have some time to help us out with
running the OSGeo-Live Quickstarts as you go through the translations.

You all have some experience with OSGeo, but usually without detailed
knowledge of the specific applications or quickstarts. This makes you
ideal people to check to verify that these quickstarts will be
understandable for a new user, and also verify applications actually
do run as described.

Software quality on our OSGeo-Live 6.5 release is looking very
promising, and starting with this release, we hope to start bringing
documentation quality up one notch, by putting the Quickstarts through
the same comprehensive review that we have done for our Project
Overviews, tracking status in our Status Spreadsheet.

We see this as a 3 step process:

Projects ensure their quickstarts are up to date, set "Quickstart
Status"="6.5draft"
A non-project person, runs every step of the quickstart, and makes
sure it runs ok. set "Quickstart Status"="6.5reviewed".
One of our writers reviews for readability. (I'm volunteering to be
one of these people). Set "Quickstart Status"="6.5final".

We're looking for are around 10 people who can dedicate a couple of
hours over the next couple of months to run a few Quickstarts and
verify they are accurate and understandable. If you can help out,
please contact me, or speak up on the osgeo-live email list.

We've started a review checklist, and am open to suggested
improvements: http://wiki.osgeo.org/wiki/Live_GIS_Add_Project#Quickstart_Review_Checklist

For the OSGeo-Live 6.5 release, we'd like to update as many
Quickstarts as we can within the next two weeks, by 4 February 2013.
