It was my first choice of approach, but the mandate of the web committee
as approved by the board is far more restrictive than I remembered. I
don't think that under its current wording that it would be possible to
maintain a lively and active contributor list.
It may be better for WebCom to be a sub group of VisCom. I don't have
any interest in physical or non-web visibility items, but it might be
easier to coordinate these items with the online presence as part of the
same entity.

Arnulf,
Just died? I think this might be a bit premature. I think VisCom has
too much on it's hands to be worried about managing all aspects of the
web site too, and I feel that a distinct web site committee that manages
the content and appearance of the web site is quite justified.
In fact, I took Jo's most recent email on the subject to be supportive
of keeping WebCom as it's own going concern with a broad mandate to
develop content and organization for the web site. Perhaps I need to
re-read it.
I also took that to be Jason's first choice of approach.
Of course, I do think it is necessary to have some overlap in membership
between VisCom and WebCom so that the messages mesh.
Best regards,
