WWW migration

We were hoping to be able to have http://www.osgeo.org/ and
http://osgeo.org/ answer with the content currently on
http://community.osgeo.org/ We don't want an additional site, we want
to replace the current main site with the Drupal content.

My guess on this was that it would be difficult/impossible because of
the integration of user management into the main website for all of the
project websites, but thought I'd ask. Ideally, the admin functions
would go to, say, http://projects.osgeo.org/, and http://www.osgeo.org/
would answer with the content currently hosted at community, and
http://osgeo.org/ would do a 301 redirect to http://www.osgeo.org/ (it
currently goes to an SSL https://www.osgeo.org/)

Any WebCom folks have comments on this?

Thanks,
Jason

Jason,

if I understand you correctly, you would like to have a front end web
presence (e.g. at [1]) separate from the development 'back end' (e.g. at
[2]). That is not a problem; in fact, we do that more often, for
instance BEA's CodeShare [3]. It essentially requires (a) you to set up
and maintain a server and (b) us to set up a DNS redirection for a sub
domain of osgeo.org.

I expect you would like to have a Drupal instance as web presence like
Jo is working on? The most slick user experience is if we align the
styles, colour schemes, and main menus of both sites. We can certainly
have our web designers to work with you to align that. Would you be
interested in that?

Auke

 1. community.osgeo.org
 2. osgeo.org
 3. http://dev2dev.bea.com/ as front web presence with
    https://www.projects.dev2dev.bea.com/ as development back end
