Comment:

 These legacy urls have some added pain, where there are actually treated
 like files on the filesystem instead of drupal objects.

 Anyway, I've moved the solkat jpegs into our /files/solkatz/ folder and
 redirected the img src's.  Now both urls should work fine and show the
 images.  I suggest using  the new/short url for future promotion.
