Hello Jeff

Thank you for commenting the lack of activity on mailing list, and to start
communicating on it
Every active ZOO project member must now speak on the mailing list to share
ideas and advancements.
Many discussions and synthesis were intended after each discussion with
Gerald and Venka, but never published...That's our fault
In fact there's nothing to sell yet, as no services has been developed
properly.
Only the kernel is running and now supports C, Python, Perl, Fortran and PHP
languages to built services.
I actually use the Fortran capabilities to built Drift-X service (.py) and
to perform Drift-X model on-line (please see
http://dev.cartography.st/zoo-project/wiki/drift-X)

There's no need to create a new company for this, we must agree before role
and responsabilities of each company involved in the ZOO
(GeoLabs, 3LIZ, Gateway....), and then sell it to our respective clients as
soon as it will be ready.

It is may be to early to built an online webGIS that users must register and
pay to access the ZOO service
I agree to tell this should be the next step after finishing ZOO Kernel and
the basic services (GDAL/OGR, PG), to ensure making money
We already thought about this a few months ago with 3LIZ and Geolabs, saying
that we should propose several level of functionnality and data storage
according to price (free, silver, gold, premium accounts)

One of the main objective should be releasing the ZOO Kernel and basics
services under BSD, and may be try to incubate OSGeo later
In the goal to provide the online paying ZOO, only complex services and
functionnalities should stay proprietary according to me

Finally, we tought to organize a ZOO meeting in Sydney on Monday, October
19th, just before FOSS4G starts
Venka, Gerald, Daisuke, You (may be ?) and I will be there, so let speak
seriously about the project; What do you think everybody ?

Sample demos of GDAL/OGR and Drift-X service will be available at that time

Cheers

Nick
