Mark,

I'd prefer to keep the vote private.

It will avoid future problems with perceptions of bias relating to who
voted for whom etc. Some of us are in positions where this perception is
important.

We will also have people who are not comfortable either voting in public
or having people know who they voted for.

I'd like to propose the following:

- Each member of the Aust-NZ at lists.osgeo.org is eligible to vote.

- We each send our vote to a single trusted person to tally the results.

- We nominate Tyler Mitchell, Executive Director of the Open Source
  Geospatial Foundation as that trusted person. Is this OK with you
  Tyler?

- We use our familiar preferential voting process and number the
  nominated candidates in order of preference from 1 (first preference)
  to 6 (last preference). All candidates will need to be numbered.

- Final say of what is an invalid vote rests with Tyler.

We can use the preference results to help allocate office holders once
the elections have been completed.

============================
As an example:

5  Cameron Shorter

4  Tim Bowden

2  Shoaib Burq

3  Harley Prowse

1  Markus Lupp

6  Bruce Bannerman
============================

If we get no objections to this proposal and Tyler agrees to act as our
scrutineer, I also propose that voting is open during the following
period (times are Australian Eastern Standard Time):

- 12:00 noon, Friday 4th April 2008 - voting opens

- 12:00 noon, Saturday 5th April 2008 - voting closes

Any comments?
