Re: community voting...perhaps you can have an interface for rating
abstracts which randomizes the list to try and get rid of the burnout
bias towards abstracts at the front of the queue. Then people can review
30 or 40 abstracts and it won't be the same ones.

So we made it to almost 300 abstracts in the end, some more stats at
http://bit.ly/ejoKx9. Submissions from 35 countries, half the total from
the US and Canada and half from the rest of the world which was nice
balance I thought!

Re introductory material, as Tyler said we are planning a day before the
main conference in parallel with the workshops as an intro session and
hope to attract a good number of newcomers to FOSS. Not sure I agree
with the Joe and Adena's views of the state of FOSS here though, I think
your perception may just depend on the circles you move in! But
certainly think there is a big potential audience for introductory
material so we will make sure we provide that, as well as lots more
heavyweight content too, of course.

Re the community voting, we do plan to do that again (as was done last
year with a similar number of abstracts). I agree there are pros and
cons to this, will see how it works this year and I think it's worth
more discussion about whether to continue it next year. As in previous
years, the results will be a guideline to the committee, they will have
scope to make adjustments to get a good spread of topics / products etc.

There's a whole day already dedicated :)

But I bet there will end up being more in the main program
too._______________________________________________
