Ah now I see, thanks! I was thinking about the conference academic track.
The original request was only about the pre-conf workshops.
Sorry for the noise from my side.

Regards,
Christian

Hi,

in this case, the wiki should be updated.

http://wiki.osgeo.org/wiki/FOSS4G_2016_Teams

Right now it says:

  *   Chair of scientific track
     *   Franz-Josef Behr, Barend Köbben, A.P. Pradeepkumar

Christian

Hi Till,

Thanks for this info. Ela is fully in charge of organising Geo4All/OSGeo education workshops at FOSS4G 2016, so i am sure she will be in touch with LOC and education community on the details in due course.I think it is great opportunity to expand OSGeo education activities to wider audience. Thanks Ela for taking this on.

Best wishes,

Suchith

Hi Ela, Volker and Christian,

just for you to know: We also have access to two session rooms (for
approx. 25 persons each) on 23rd of August (day before core conference
starts) in another place, which might be used for Geo4All/Education
workshops.
We can get this rooms for free, so we would have to care for some
coffee and a snack for midday only.
I think, if you/Geo4All wants to make sth. that day in these two rooms,
you/Geo4All (and/or the academic committee) should overtake the
organisation for this.
I can assist for any local stuff.

I already talked to Suchith from Geo4All about this possibility - just
to keep that in mind and please keep Suchith up to date!

Hi Christian,

thanks for replying. I was thinking about a different thing, though I
might be the only one.

There will surely be an academic track with it's own proper selection
etc.

I was thinking if there could also be general talks about education
in
the general problem. So it won't be about results from research, but
rather about FOSS4G in education in general. It could be things like
cases studies about switching to open source, or analysis of what's
still needed in regards to open source. Or about ideas how open
source
could play a bigger role.

Not sure if that makes sense. If not, I'm happy to have an academic
track only.

Cheers,
  Volker

Hi,

I just want to give my two cents about the academic track. I would
prefer an actual academic or education (or may it be called
GeoForAll)
track. Meaning, that we would have an actual track in the program,
at
least clearly marked in the program schedule overview, preferably
one
this way declared marked column, and maybe even with a dedicated
location (session room). In Portland I found it quite confusing to
see
which presentations are part of the academic track. This way this
would
be really simple.

Cheers,
Christian

Dear LOC,

While planning sessions and workshops, please don't forget these
dedicated to FOSS4G education. Some time ago we were discussing
the
possibility to have education pointed out as a special topic in a
general track.

Please let me know when the proper time comes to move on with this
topic.

the time is now.

What did you have in mind in regards to having a special track.
Would
that be sessions from people from the education community? Or would
we
just have a special focus during the general program selection on
education (that would be my preference)?

Cheers,
   Volker
