Bruce,

You are right that some of these methods could/should sensibly be moved
up to the OGRGeometry classes.  However, I have been hesitant to start
implementing and document custom OGR implementations of these sorts of
utility geometry functions when I anticipate integration with GEOS to
fill most of this capability at some point.
