[Gdal-dev] Writing shapefiles with ogr for qgis

Hi

Can someone point me to a short code sample on writing a shapefile using ogr. 
Currently I have written stuff using Franks shapelib, but am wondering if ogr 
is better suited to this purpose in that:

a) qgis already has gdal/ogr deps
b) ogr provides a c++ interface
