Ari,

If the objective is to test the API, I'd think that testing one full
featured raster format, and one full featured vector format would
be sufficient.  The MEM and Memory formats are the two obvious candidates
for full featured-ness.  For real formats the GTiff and Shapefile are pretty
full featured though each format has a few particular limitations as well.
