I tried a few months ago and it seems to be impossible to find VC 7.1 
any more. If you find a place where it's still available (I mean 
legally) then I'd be interested as well.

In the meantime I have been using the VC++ 2005 Express (I think that's 
what it's called) which is available for free, but seems to have some 
compatibility problems with the BuildKit.

Back to the original topic of this thread, I agree that unified binaries 
would be nice to have, but I am not familiar enough with the Windows 
builds and issues so I'll let the Windows experts decide what they think 
is best.
