http://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/geokey-code-sprint-for-participatory-mapping-tickets-14371849589 GeoKey Code Sprint - November 29th, 2014    Flex your Coding Muscles for Participatory Mapping We’re holding a code sprint and we’d really like your help!   Join us for one day of food and fun, to help us grow GeoKey (http://geokey.org.uk/) —a community platform for participatory mapping. https://github.com/ExCiteS/geokey
   - Help us shape the future of open mapping: GeoKey is an open source project and it’s community-led. Help  shape the future of participatory mapping by building a mapping  platform you would use yourself.
   - You can control your own geo data: GeoKey is an alternative to commercial mapping platforms. You can help communities to share data openly and securely, while retaining ownership and full control over your data.
WHEN - Saturday the 29th of November, 2014 WHERE - University College London, Pearson Building (room TBA)    SCHEDULE
   - 9:30 Coffee

   - Community project development
WHAT    Participatory mapping is mapping done by local communities, who make use of web tools to collect and visualise geographic information.  It has been used to support decision making and local activism.      GeoKey is a platform for participatory mapping that provides a web-based infrastructure to collect, share and discuss local knowledge. You can use it to set up your own mapping project with your community and to collect, visualise and analyse data using the tools of your choice.    We just  released version 0.2, which is the first official release, and provides the following key features:
   - Set up up your data structures:

   - You decide what data your community should collect by setting up categories and attributes.

   - Decide who can access, contribute and moderate data:
      - Use user groups and data groupings — a predefined subset of all data contributed to the project — to define, which users can access, contribute and moderate data.

   - Add media to your contributions:
      - Enrich your contributions by uploading photos and videos to each of your contributions.

   - Discuss:
      - Comments on each contribution allow you and your community to discuss observations you have made.

   - Connect your app using our API:
      - Use our public REST API to build and connect applications for data collection, analysis and visualisation.

   CODE SPRINT WISH LIST
   - Integration with Twitter: Twitter is a widely used way to share information about your current whereabouts. We want to enable GeoKey to read and post data from and to Twitter. Using a special Twitter handle for each participatory mapping project, Twitter users should be able to tweet their experiences to GeoKey. Vice versa, GeoKey should be able to tweet a link to one of their contributions.
   - Data import/export: Means to import and export data set from and to various widely used data formats is a crucial factor for the success of open data projects. GeoKey should be able to import and export data into CSV, KML, XML or similar.
   - Activity feeds: Contributors, moderators and project administrators want to know what happened in their projects recently. Let's provide them with an overview of everything that happened since their last login: New contributions, discussions and uploaded media.
GITHUB    You can find us on GitHub at: https://github.com/ExCiteS/geokey      As soon as you’re ready to start contributing, please fork us on GitHub and work from your fork.    When you’re ready to let us know about all the wonderful new features you’ve added, issue a pull request.    For those of you who are new to GitHub, you can find step-by-step instructions here:https://help.github.com/articles/fork-a-repo/
