Ok, enough has been said about the subject, the corresponding disclaimers have already been made and we have all learned something. So let's continue working to have an increasingly better and healthier OSGeo.

Have a nice day,

I did answer Sergio privately already, but I also need to give my 2 cents on this publicly. Because it bugs me. Sorry in advance! Take it easy please. :-)

What you (Sergio, Maria, Kavita, Rafael, John) are doing here is derailing Stevens rightful and polite request to stick to the lists topic, and bringing this on a personal/social level by accusing Steven he is out of touch and corrupting the communication environment, exclude perspectives and what not. This is not Ok, from my point of view. And it is indeed a form of social violence...

I think Suchith is a grown man (and professional) and can take such feedback without getting personally offended. But if so, he can very well defend himself if he thinks that he needs to defend himself. AFAIK he is a native english speaker and has the highest academic degree you can achieve... I know that Steven and Suchith know each other form the FOSS4G-UK community, so they should be able to settle this between each other just fine.

But on the topic, I second Stevens request of please sending less off-topic messages on this (and other) lists, I also regard public 1 line congratulations and seconds without any relevant information on the discussed topic as unnecessary and irrelevant traffic (these kind of messages are - from my perception - at least 50% of messages on this GeoForAll list). Are you not interested in decreasing your daily incoming mails?

Where are we when we can't give this kind of feedback or bring up such matters/opinions? Others just unsubscribe from the list and do not give this - from my point of view - valuable feedback...

Take it easy!

Best,
Christian

Steven,

Sorry for intervening but I think that type of "reproach" should be done privately. I know Suchith and I am sure that he does it with the best intentions. At least your comment sounded a little out of touch to me. Let's try to maintain a good communication environment.

Best,

Suchith

 I’m missing something.

Can you explain how this is relevant to OSGeo? Today is also the birthday of King Richard 3rd of England, Groucho Marx, Coco the Clown, Robert Henry Lawrence Jr and many others but I don’t think any of them were open source digital geographers.

I understand why you might admire Gandhi but others may not agree. OSGeo Discuss is not the place for these conversations imo, which is evidenced by the lack of response that such posts receive

Perhaps the GeoforAll list is a more relevant place?

Regards
Steven

Dear colleagues

The International Day of Non-Violence is observed on 2 October, the birthday of Mahatma Gandhi, leader of the Indian independence movement and pioneer of the philosophy and strategy of non-violence. According to United Nations General Assembly resolution A/RES/61/271<http://undocs.org/A/RES/61/271> of 15 June 2007, which established the commemoration, the International Day is an occasion to "disseminate the message of non-violence, including through education and public awareness". The resolution reaffirms "the universal relevance of the principle of non-violence" and the desire "to secure a culture of peace, tolerance, understanding and non-violence".

I bow to Mahatma Gandhi on the special occasion of Gandhi Jayanti. Mahatma Gandhi's impact is global, motivating the entire humankind to further the spirit of unity and compassion.

Best wishes

Suchith
