I don't know much about MySQL spatial capability but I have a fair amount of MySQL experience aside from that. Jay, Postgre may be a better option, but for your reference here are the GUI admin tools. Pick appropriate platform.

Jay,

I'd highly recommend postgres with postgis over MySQL.  MySQL's GIS support is FAR lacking compared to PostGIS.

Also, the installation of Postgres + PostGIS is very painless and comes with a nice GUI (pgAdmin III).

I am trying to get MySQL running on my computer.

I downloaded the Community Server at http://dev.mysql.com/downloads/

I then installed it on port referencing 3306

 

I don’t see any graphic interface.  Is there one.  How do I create tables etc.
