[Geomoose-users] POLL: Geomoose 2.2 or 2.4 on the Live DVD, which is more stable?

Brent,

Thanks for the info. PHP and POSTGIS are already configured on the LiveDVD, so that end should be straight forward enough. Something that sticks in the back of my mind though, is how to manage the different OS installs. The LiveDVD is using Ubuntu for example.

I'm wondering if we don't help the process by packaging everything up as a single install for demo purposes, especially in the case of MS4W (and PHP), but I also know there are those that would prefer to install each piece themselves.

I can see using a subset of the LIVEDVD for GeoMoose instruction/training at some point as well.

Bob,

I'm a little off-topic, but I think we need to formalize our testing when we do a release (unfortunately I didn't have time to spend on v2.4 rc1).

I just installed GeoMOOSE v2.4 Web Mercator Demo and MS4W on Windows XP with IE 8, and it failed to load the page. I had to install the Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 SP1 Redistributable Package to get PHP to work, but I think that's MS4W's problem.

For GeoMOOSE, I had to remove the trailing comma on line 2216 of compiled.js to get:
                    resolutions: CONFIGURATION.scales

And I had to uncomment the mapping library script includes in geomoose.html.

Best Regards,

Dan,

Well, the examples I was referring to, were those on the GeoMoose site. Which I've had get fouled up with the navigation tools. Sometimes the interface gets lost if you jump back and forth from the on map controls to the top tool bar controls in the mercator demo for example.

The parcel ID function in the county demo is outputting some MapServer errors.

I was planning on just copying these into the Live DVD originally, but they look like they need fixing, at least in the case of the Parcel ID stuff.

So, should I copy them and configure for 2.4 or fix the 2.2 version?

There is absolutely nothing in 2.2 that should work that doesn't in 2.4. The code is not that different. Fix your configuration.

Dan,

That's the problem. I had to build a case to include some local demos in the LIVE DVD installer ,but not everything seems to work in the 2.2 stuff, so to fix, it seems better to address the same capabilities in the 2.4 version instead of repairing the 2.2 demos.

Ugh... Yeah, GM2.4 has a ton of fixes that are reasonably important. Especially when you take it away from the demo configuration.

All,

in your estimation (of those that have used GM2.4, would you think that 2.4 is more or as stable as GM2.2?

It has been suggested that using GM2.2 for the LiveDVD may be better than going with a newer version.

Any thoughts?
