[Geomoose-users] label placement for polygons

You need to change the data type within the map file to "line" and it will
label it like a  line segment and not a polygon.  If you have some type of
shading or fill pattern you need an additional layer with those polygon
styles specified.

Jim,

  Labeling is a mapserver function.  Does using POSITION CC in the LABEL
object in the map file help move the label away from the edge?
