Bobb and TC,

That’s good to know that GeoMOOSE can do something like.

Mark,

I would second TC’s ideas about using a Database to query from. It’s far easier to implement reporting in this way for any type of report, both tabular and map based.

Is the end result only to calculate those parcels completely withint the selection area polygon, or can you simply select the polygons from the parcel dataset and build a separate report for each.

This all seems completey doable by the way, just trying to get a handle on the complexity of implementing it.

Bobb,

The soils data will effectively be static. The parcels will be dynamic. Currently I am using shapefiles for my data. I might be interested in using PostGRES / PostGIS however I recently abandoned using postgres because loading data through a script and shp2pgsql quit working.

PS I am on a windows platform

Hi Mark,

How often does the source data (soils) change and in what format is it managed/archived in?

Hello,

I would like to know if it is possible to create a soil clipping tool in GeoMOOSE, and if so if there is anyone that might be willing to help out in creating this application. I do not know the exact requirements yet, but it will be something such as this:
• A user creates a polygon area of interest. As they are drawing the polygon it would be best if they could see the distances and bearings of each side of the polygon which is similar to the “measure with bearings extension.” It may even be better if they could type in the distances and bearings for each edge of the polygon –ie a simple COGO – but that might be too complex.
• Once the polygon is submitted to GeoMOOSE (ie someone presses Go!) then GeoMOOSE will create a report that will display the total parcel acreage, the acreage of a parcel within the area of interest, and the total acreage of each soil type within the parcel.
• Other ideas that might be interesting include:
o A map report that includes the selection area, parcels, and possibly a list of the results on the second page.
• I will not be doing anything until GeoMOOSE 3 is available.

Thank You
