Sorry blame myself to made a direct reply in the previous message!

I think probably you have started with too many geonode setups but now just
to figure out this once forever the trick for inheritance is based on the
concept to have geonode (as a library) and geonode-project installed
together in the same virtual environment.
Once you get this then you can replace the geonode references with the same
from the geonode-project.
