Can't access monitor; path still not right?

I got the bash-adjusted version of GIS.sh that was just posted, and grass
starts, but two things I notice: (1) the system won't install a new mapset,
it gives me an error when I try to do so; and (2) I can't start a display.
This is what happened with global

WHen I try to start a display, I get this:

> Enter name of graphics monitor to start
> Enter "list" for a list of known monitors
> Enter "list -f" for a list with current status
> Hit RETURN to return to menu
> > x0
> Xlib: connection to ":0.0" refused by server
> Xlib: Client is not authorized to connect to Server
> Graph_Set: can't open :0.0
> Please start graphics monitor <x0>.

I am indeed the user who started X11.

GIS.sh is owned by grass.grass. Is that right?

I am encouraged. However, perhaps I should mention that last week this
thing was working. Perhaps I have messed up the permissions on grass.

There is something that isn't deleted on this system when I remove grass
binaries and refresh the data directories. What do I have to do to remove
grass entirely and start from scratch?
