MapServer @ PHP 5.x

I need to know several things, most of which are hangups for me...

1. PHPMapScript can only be used as CGI? Huh? Explain the
reasoning/problem behind this please. I will not give up the
flexibility/security of DSO.

2. The current Win32 bins only work with PHP4? Can we PLEASE get up to
date here? Current release has been PHP5 for quite awhile (6+ months)
now. Won't kill ya to recompile with the new headers. ;)

3. www.gentoo.org! Get MapServer in the portage tree! Get a ton of
users/development help! Definately worth the time to make the ebuild!

My only problem is I´m a diehard Linux user, and have nil experience in
compiling for the winblows platform, which unfortunatly, is needed for my
company's current project.

Getting the Linux version is not beyond me, PROVIDED the exact problems in
making it run under PHP as a DSO are made clear to me. If this can be
explained in detail, perhaps I can begin on the Portage ebuild for you
after this...problem...is solved.

Did I miss anything? To summarize, I need: MapServer functioning in both
Linux and Win32 under PHP5 in DSO mode.
