Box on reference map

Sorry, I got it wrong in my last post.

The only combination of extents that works for all options is to have 
main map extents in lat/long (matching the data) and the reference map 
extent in the corresponding projection metres.

With this (and only this) combination I can pan on the main map using 
the pan icons and by clicking the reference mapand, use a rubber band 
to select a box of interest and have it zoom on the main map and 
display on the reference map and query points by switching to query 
mode.

Dynamically setting reference map image and extent remains a challenge.
