Label angle on roads

I'm currently working on a mapserver\chameleon application, I've seen
a couple of posts on this mailing list in which people used the label
value of "angle auto" to force the angle of the label to match a line.

Adding the angle, auto to my label doesn't seem to make any difference
at all in my map's appearance. All road labels are still completely
horizontal.

I would really like for the angle of the label to match the angle of
that section of road. Any help in this matter would be greatly
appreciated.
