[mapserver-users] connection to a non spatial datasource

Hi,
I need to connect to a MS SQL SERVER table, read the lat/long fields and 
render a map of points.
I read this wiki
http://trac.osgeo.org/mapserver/wiki/VirtualSpatialData

Is this still the best approach to do that?
