I have fixed that in SVN using \enlargethispage{}.

I don't think so since the entire layout will end up differently
(maybe I am wrong).

Glynn wrote in the GRASS ML:
"The logical thing to do would be to format the document to fit on both
 A4 and Letter paper."

This is probably the best thing to do in order to avoid extra work.
