[Aust-NZ] Fwd: Where to now?

Hey Guys

I am just catching up with my email, and noticed the incorporation idea in Victoria.

Can I ask the main reasons? The reason I ask, is that I am the president of OSDC (Open Source Developers Club) and we are there to help with that side of things.

PHPMelb and Melbourne.pm have both now closed and become part of OSDC. Why - because we were only an incorporated association for a bank account and for protection of members (by being a not for profit association, you are protected privately from being sued, unless you do something illegal - but no insurance protects you there).

So for example, a OSGeo Australia or similar could be part of OSDC as an approved group, thus have access to funds raised during other events (like the currently running OSDC conference in Brisbane).

Sorry I have jumped in the middle here and didn't have time to go through all my mail, as I am at the conference :-)

Scott
P.S. I have started 3 associations in the last decade, so if we need one anyway, I can help.
