Dear opengeoscience committee list,

thanks for the encouraging feedback (on- and off-list) regarding the EGU Townhall proposal.

The deadline to submit the Townhall is Friday, January 20. Here is a pitch for an updated Townhall title and description, which includes "Open Science". The text needs to be sumbitted on Friday.

The description of last years Townhall can be found here: http://meetingorganizer.copernicus.org/EGU2016/session/22421

Also, (co-)conveners for the Townhall are needed (very little effort before and during the event, opportunity to attend the invitation-only convener reception on Friday night.): Who wants to join the fun ?

Title: Open Source Geospatial Foundation (OSGeo): Open Source Scientific Software for Open Science

Description:

The paradigm of Open Science is based on the tiers Open Access, Open Data and Free Open Source Software. However, the interconnections between the tiers remain to be improved. This is a critical factor to enable Open Science.
The Open Source Geospatial Foundation, or OSGeo, is a not-for-profit organization whose mission is to support the collaborative development of open source geospatial software, and promote its widespread use. It provides a common forum and shared infrastructure for improving cross-project collaboration.and serves as an independent legal entity to which community members can contribute code, funding and other resources, secure in the knowledge that their contributions will be maintained for public benefit. This Townhall meeting will be the opportunity to share our views on the current and future use of open source geospatial software for a better understanding of the Earth system and its changing environment as part of Open Science.

Please comment.

best,
Peter
