[OpenLayers-Users] mouse events on vector and marker layers?

Is there a strong reason not to use a "point" vector layer instead of 
your marker layer?
You can then set "externalGraphic" to get the same icon as your marker 
layer has.
Two vector layers should work then, I suppose.
