[osgeo4w-dev] Q about sip package

Does anyone know what the purpose of the following line in 
`etc/postinstall/sip.bat`? It replaces a single backslash with a double, 
so 'C:\OSGeo4W' becomes 'C:\\OSGeo4W'.

     set OSGEO4W_ROOT=%OSGEO4W_ROOT:\=\\%
