Hi All

Nothing causes more debate than the whole release / don't release
topic. Maybe its good to lay out the plans for the medium term future:

- Release 1.7 as the last general point release in the 1.x series
- Make subsequent 1.7.x bug fixes while we work on 2.0
- Precede 2.0 with 1.9.x preview releases (which will not be publicised widely)
- Release 2.0 - our optimistic hope was for a September release but
(apologies to Gary) I suspect we will miss that target and year end
will be more likely.

@Markus I am going to try to maintain the 1.7 branch with bugfixes so
that we can release 1.7.1 etc

>From my usage, 1.7 is more stable and usable than 1.6. Almost all
software I know of ships with bugs and even crashes. Even gnome 3.0
which I love dies on me now and again. Of course we want to release
stable software, but we also want to put improvements out there
regularly so that others can benefit from ongoing improvements and new
features. I agree with Marco, Juergen and others - lets go on and
release so that we can focus our energies on 2.0.

Regards

Tim

It has to change somehow... one thing we are missing is the ability to sell QGIS in this manner. And I mean sell in the most commercial aspect. Having a commercial work force, not for licenses but for bugs, quality and overall long term sustainability. Now there's a challenge...
