[Qgis-developer] Aspiring new developer and bug issue

Hello people,

as an exercise for my MSc we are required to contribute somehow in an open
source GIS project. Recently, I was experimenting with modelbuilder in QGIS
and I think I found a bug (which I reported it in
https://hub.qgis.org/issues/16431 ) and I would like to fix it as part of
my assignment.

I would like to ask you, if there are some introductory guidelines that I
should read, and if you think that the particular bug is something that a
newby could handle. Or if you have some other bug suggestion for newcomers.
My skills with python are just above average :)
