Hi all

So what about grouping the tools to different toolbars by functionality and hide all the editing toolbars by default?
A possible classification would be:

vertex manipulation tools (add/move/delete vertex, noding tool)
feature manipulation tools (simplify, add/delete ring, add/delete island, move feature, split feature, merge features)
feature creation/deletion (add feature, delete feature, cut, copy, paste)
general(undo, redo)

Like this we have a clean UI by default and possibility to selectively hide/show toolbars if needed (and no dropdown buttons).
Maybe there are other classifications that would make sense.
Let me know what you think.

Regards,
Marco

Hi!

To be honest I like the view of QGIS being a simple tool for simple
tasks. But nevertheless sometimes I have to use a bit more complicated
tools to reach my goal.
I see how fast QGIS develops now and I'm curious what the future will bring.
Stick with the roots is ok - but never forget that anything is evolving
and so does QGIS.

I personally like to see QGIS able to view 3D Data and not only stuck to
2D. Maybe thats a high goal to set but - we all have dreams ;)

So for the question of advanced or not advanced .. what about enabling
advanced options with a klickmark in the options dialog?
To have default QGIS just with easy to use options and show a new
"advanced" menu (like ftools menu) when advanced features are wanted..

That would be my kind of solution.

regards
Werner

QGIS is matured to a Desktop-GIS system with a wide spread of potential users, with the claim from very easy to use up to advanced user. I believe that we can satify both user groups. Disable digitizing - as an advanced feature - will make QGIS to an easy to use Desktop-GIS. Yes in my opinion digitizing is an advanced feature at all. Thus I think there are no conflicts between easy to use and pull down buttons or short cuts etc.
