[Qgis-user] Making buffers

Hi all, 


Im trying to make a buffer zone of the shoreline (of greece) with a
range of 5 nautical miles based on a line vector file. 

I've stumbled in two problems: 
1) Making a buffer zone of that kind is extremely slowly. The right way
is : Vec analysis -> geoprepossessing -> Buffer(s) ? 

2) Is there a way of the buffer zone to be drown only at the right or
the left of the heading of the line?
