[Qgis-user] displaying coordinates as DMS

I'm not sure about 1.4, but in 1.6 and above you would do this by having the project in a geographic CRS, with "on the fly" off. 

Then in the general tab of project properties you can select the unit to show coordinates in. 

Does that help at all?
