Christy -

IAFK , You can upload a GPX file directly to a Garmin 62 GPS unit. So
your problem is how to convert your shapefile to a GPX file:

 1. Right click on your shapefile layer in the "Layers" dialog. A menu
    will be shown with several choices.
 2. Chose "Save As" from the right click - menu. A new dialog "Save
    vector layer as.." will be shown.
 3. In the new dialog:
    - Select "GPS eXchange Format [GPX] as Format
    - Select "Selected CRS" in "CRS" and - using the "Browse" button -
    select "EPSG:4326" as the CRS (projection). It is important that you
    choose this projection.
    - In the "Data source" box you probably have to write
    "GPX_USE_EXTENSIONS=YES" (Without the "")
    - Select a filename for the new GPX file.
 4. Push the "OK" button to generate the GPX file. This file can be
    copied to the GPS unit.
