[Qgis-user] Question on Symbology and PostGIS

This might be something I should know. I have a point layer in 
postgres/postgis. It has three fields: name (varchar), CID ( primary 
key), and one called spacing (char).

I tried to symbolize the point layer on the spacing attribute - it 
wouldn't. I made another field in postgis and called it spacing1 and 
made it varchar and it was no problem at all. Will QGIS not 
catergorically symbolize on a char field in postgis? Not a big deal as I 
can work around it - just curious though.
