By now, QGIS 2.0.1 is the current version. Why don't you try that?

QGIS 1.8.0 had some issues with blanks in Folder names (like C:\Program 
Files(x86)\Quantum Gis\ has by default, and Windows user names with 
non-ASCII-caharcters also caused problems.
