[Qgis-user] Draw square or line and see meters

Hello

Its a quite simple problem but i don't know how it works.
I work with a GPS and QGIS, i want to draw a square or a line, but i want to
see while drawing how much meters the line already is.  Sample; From my
current location i have to walk 50 meters, so i want to draw i line of 50
meters so i know where to stop and the line has the saved.
Also i want to draw in a polygon shape different squares of different sizes.
 Is it  possible?

A worked with Arcpad and while drawing the meters where visible.
